5 Great Reasons to Play With Your Cat

Did you know that one of the best things you can do for your kitty is to play with her regularly? As it turns out, those fuzzy catnip mice are actually pretty important to Fluffy’s health and well-being. Read on as an Aurora, CO vet lists some great reasons to play with your feline friend.

Exercise

Is your cat sleeping right now? There’s a pretty good chance that the answer to that question is yes. Our feline buddies certainly are sleepy little furballs! Playing will get your kitty off the couch and moving, which is great for her physically. Even just a few minutes of exercise every day can help keep Fluffy in shape.

Boredom Buster

Playing offers your kitty mental stimulation. This will help keep Fluffy’s mind healthy as she ages, and can help prevent the cognitive decline some pets experience in their golden years.

Anxiety

Just like people, cats can suffer from anxiety or other emotional issues. Playing gives your kitty a healthy way to work off her angst. After taking out her frustrations on an innocent catnip mouse, Fluffy will be calmer, and perhaps a bit tired.

Beat The Zoomies

Does your kitty have a habit of attacking your toes, or smacking her toys around in the middle of the night? A fun play session will tire your frisky pet out. We probably don’t have to tell you what happens when cats get even a little tired … naptime!

Bonding

Our feline overlords usually notice when we do things just to please them. Your furry little buddy will definitely appreciate you taking time to play with her. (Fluffy may choose to express her gratitude in some rather quirky ways, such as sleeping on top of your head, but that’s another topic.)

Toys

Kitties all have their own individual tastes in toys. Some furballs like catnip mice, while others would rather bat a ball under the couch. And while some cats love chasing the little red dot from a laser pointer, others are completely unimpressed by that elusive crimson spot. Pay attention to what your feline pal likes best. (Tip: if you want to try something fun and new, get Fluffy catnip bubbles or a robotic mouse.)
