Are you putting up a tree this year? If so, don’t be surprised if you find your cat eyeing it with that mischievous look kitties are so good at. After all, climbing the tree is one of Fluffy’s favorite traditions! Actually, our feline friends have quite a few traditions of their own. An Aurora, CO vet lists some of them below.
Get In The Way
Kitties like to be right in the middle of things. Fluffy may very well sprawl out for a nap in the middle of the line of traffic, or try to hop onto the table where you are wrapping gifts. She may also weave around your legs as you are walking or cooking.
Supervise
Cats like to keep a close eye on everything that is going on in their domains. Fluffy will supervise you very carefully as you cook, wrap gifts, and decorate.
Play With The Tree
As far as cats are concerned, holiday trees are giant kitty playgrounds! Keep your furry buddy in mind as you are decorating. Hang only sturdy, unbreakable objects on the bottom part of the tree, and keep the fragile ornaments on the top third. You may also want to secure the top of the tree to the wall or ceiling with fishing wire.
Steal Chairs
Our sleepy feline pals are always looking for warm, cozy napping spots. Don’t be surprised if you get up for a moment, only to find your kitty immediately hopping into your chair.
Hop Into Boxes
No one can say for sure exactly why cats love boxes so much, but this may very well be the most adorable obsession ever. Offer your playful pet some of the empty boxes once everyone has finished opening their gifts.
Help The Humans
Kitties are very thoughtful little furballs, and often try to help their humans with household chores. Fluffy may offer her ‘assistance’ as you are wrapping gifts, decorating the tree, or changing the sheets in the spare room.
Enjoy New Toys
Don’t forget to pick up a few things for Fluffy! Toys make great gifts for cats. Classic kitty gifts, like catnip mice, are fine, but you can also get your furball some adorable modern toys, like robotic mice.
