Did you know that there’s a special—and rather comical—pet holiday coming up? March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! It’s pretty safe to say that our furry pals would cause quite a bit of havoc if they were to suddenly develop opposable thumbs. In this article, an Aurora, CO vet offers a few suggestions about the chaos Fluffy and Fido may wreak if they grew thumbs.
Raid The Fridge. And The Cupboards
If there’s one thing all of our furry buddies are enthusiastic about, it’s food! You may come home to find every single container of food open, and your pets sleeping off a massive meal. (Note: if pets could figure out how to order meal deliveries, we’d all be in serious trouble.)
Scratch That Itch
Does your four-legged pal close their eyes in bliss when you help them scratch that stubborn itch? If you happen to have a back scratcher lying around, your furball may waste little time in appropriating it!
Let Themselves Out
If Fido and Fluffy suddenly grew thumbs, one of the first things they would do would be to let themselves out. Of course, Fluffy may immediately let herself back in, while Fido would head for the nearest doggy park.
Ransack All Your Drawers
Fido and Fluffy are both very inquisitive by nature. Your furry friends may very well sort through every closet and drawer in your house, just out of curiosity. Fluffy may also go through all of your dishes, and toss everything off the counters.
Go On A Shopping Spree
Pets with thumbs and access to one-click shopping could be a dangerous combination! We suspect that Fluffy would order live fish, comfy beds, and cat furniture. Fido, on the other hand, would probably sign up for gourmet meal delivery services. He may also buy himself some treats, doggy toys, and a new doghouse.
Take A Drive
Car rides are one of Fido’s favorite things ever! Your pooch might just grab your keys and take off on a doggy adventure to a park or pet café. Fluffy probably wouldn’t be interested in going along, but she may very well lock her canine roommate out of the house, and then refuse to answer your texts.
