Summer Cat Care Tips

Summer is just around the corner now. Our feline friends love this time of year. After all, Fluffy gets to spend more time sunbathing, and there are more birds and other critters around for her to watch. There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as the weather warms up, though. This can be a dangerous time of year for a little furball! An Aurora, CO veterinarian lists some summer cat care tips in this article.

Keep Kitty Hydrated

Making sure that Fluffy is staying properly hydrated is absolutely crucial in hot weather. You may want to consider setting out extra water stations and/or get a pet fountain. When it’s really hot out, you can drop ice cubes into your kitty’s bowl. Your feline buddy may also appreciate a bowl of chilled broth or tuna juice on occasion.

Stay Current With Preventative Care

Wellness care is important all year long, but it is particularly crucial in summer, when fleas, ticks, heartworms, and other parasites are out in number. Vaccinations are also important for protecting your furry little friend against dangerous diseases. Keep up with your kitty’s appointments and wellness care!

Monitor The Furball

Cats like to follow their owners around like furry, meowing little stalkers. That’s for the most part pretty cute, but it can be dangerous in extreme weather. Fluffy could accidentally get locked into a shed or attic. Keep an eye out for your little buddy.

Ground Fluffy

We know, our feline pals love fun outdoor kitty pastimes, like ignoring their humans’ calls and terrorizing small animals. However, Fluffy really isn’t safe outside. Cars, weather, traffic, parasites, wild animals, chemicals … all of these things pose serious threats to a little ball of fur. Keep your adventurous buddy safe and sound indoors.

Brush

Fluffy is pretty devoted to her beauty care regimen, but that doesn’t mean she can’t use some help. Brushing your furry buddy will get dead fur and dander out of her coat, which will keep her cooler.

Offer Comfy Spots

If there is one thing cats are good at, it’s getting comfortable. Your furball will naturally seek out cool, comfy spots. You can also help out by offering a hammock bed, which will stay cooler than a regular bed.
