Did you know that July 11th is Pet Photo Day? This is definitely a cause we are happy to get behind. We love seeing pictures of our furry clients! However, Fluffy and Fido aren’t always the most cooperative subjects when it comes to getting their pictures taken. Read on for some great tips on taking pet photos from a local Aurora, CO vet.
Apps
If you have a smartphone, look for apps made specifically for pet pictures. Many of these have sounds that will catch your little buddy’s attention, and/or built-in settings that work great for pets.
Angles
Experiment with different angles and poses. Sometimes kneeling or sitting down can get you some great eye-level shots. Of course, Fido and Fluffy also look adorable when they are looking up at you, so try some that way, too.
Cheese!
Telling Fido or Fluffy to say ‘cheese’ probably won’t evoke much of a reaction, so use a squeaky toy to get your little buddy’s attention.
Snap Extras
Don’t just get one or two pictures and call it quits. Take several different shots, and keep snapping. That one last shot may turn out to be your favorite!
Contrast
Choose a setting that offers a good contrast against your pet’s coat. For instance, if you have a black cat, opt for a pale background.
Settings
Do you have a four-legged bundle of zoom on your hands? Opt for a quick shutter speed. A flash may work inside, but you may get better results without one if you are outside. The macro setting often works great for close-ups or pocket pets.
Editing
Modern technology offers a plethora of great apps and editing programs. Don’t be afraid to experiment! You may adore a sepia-toned photo of Fido, or a black and white close-up of Fluffy’s paws.
Lighting
Dusk and dawn offer the best light for photos, so try to schedule your furball’s photo sessions for morning or evening.
Pet Shaming
Our animal friends are chock full of cute quirks. The next time your furry buddy does something funny or naughty, write a short description of it on a piece of cardboard or paper, and get a picture of your pet with it. This has made for some absolutely hilarious photos!
